Talk about diminishing returns. The first two Austin Powers films were equally hilarious --
although the second did recycle many of the funny bits from the first.
The third film, "Austin Powers in Goldmember," not only recycles the jokes, but now the jokes are stale and the humor
relies mostly on juvenile potty jokes.
A good addition to the series is Michael Caine as Austin's father and a funny riff on a spy inside Dr. Evil's
organization (the mole) with, you guessed it, a giant mole on his lip. Other than that, you can skip this tired retread
of a sequel.
The DVD extras, however, are a different story. Perhaps Mike Myers' fabled perfectionism results in loads of DVD extras
in all his Austin Powers DVDs. Here, you get fifteen deleted scenes, a handful of mini-documentaries, music videos, a
commentary by director Jay Roach and Mike Myers as well as the "World of Austin Powers" which discusses such topics as
the cars in the film and stunts. The extras are great -- it's a shame they're attached to such a dull film. |
