Big Train - Seasons 1 & 2 [BBC]

Do you know what your children are watching?

By LESLIE ATWATERS

The latest in British sketch comedy, Big Train lasted for a mere two seasons and both are included on this DVD collection. It first aired on the BBC in 1998 and 2002 and it is similar to the standard with which all  sketch comedies have to be compared, Monty Python's  Flying Circus. It is equally surrealistic and has similar targets.

Compared to another recent
sketch comedy series, Little Britain, Big Train is more inconsistent, with fewer laugh-out loud sketches, but its absurdist sensibility will delight fans of British humor.

Watch for recurring non-sequiturs on things like horse racing jockeys, as well as now famous actors like the very funny Simon Pegg (of Shaun of the Dead and Hot Fuzz). He's a delight.

There are several DVD features, including audio commentaries by  the cast & crew, performers' bios, deleted scenes, a very odd entry with material from Geht's Noch -- apparently the German version of Big Train, and a photo gallery.
