Sally Lou oh what can we do?
"The Cat in the Hat" finds trouble to brew. The
Cat in the Hat (Mike Myers) jumps on the big
screen but fans of the book will surely scream! He
jumbles up a house into an awful mess when Mom
(Kelly Preston) brings home her boss to impress!
Her house seems so perfect, so neat and so new.
That's not to last long because of you-know-who.
The neighbor seems nosy and a bit of a jerk. He
stays home all day and pretends to work. Conrad
(Spencer Breslin) and Sally (Dakota Fanning) have
much to do. They must undo the mess or Mom will go
boo-hoo. This Cat fools around way too much. He
also says some things that disgust. There's a joke
about a "Ho" that creeps in. Some other things,
too that just might offend. Take my advice if this
Cat comes to town. Make sure your door is locked
and that you aren't around.
The picture looks perfect and that's no lie. Which
is fine for a script that barely gets by. The
colors are vibrant and leap off the walls. There's
pink in one room and colorful halls. No digital
artifacts can be found. This transfer will surely
astound. The sound rips right through the room.
Perhaps the Cat is the harbinger of doom. The
sound mix comes alive and drills through the
walls.
Good thing the Cat packed a bag for under the
weight of these extras you would sag. We glimpse
behind the scenes magic in a number of ways
including how Pomona was turned into a maze. We
discover the tricks of creating a mess and soon
special effects will your friends impress. There's
a lot more fun as you dance with the Cat but be
sure to bring shoes that feel good while you
prance. Learning to dance like the Cat just might
do but I'd watch the outtakes of, yes, you know
who. We find lots of scenes that the film did
without. When you see them yourself you'll
understand no doubt. We also learn about the real
Dr. Seuss. If he'd seen this film, he'd give Bo
the boot! No one says a word about the film on
this disc. Perhaps it's because of the meddling
fish. I know, I know that Bo really does speak and
his comments are fun but not for the meek.
Made more for adults than little kids, the makers
knew what they did. I know some will read this
with a snort. All I have to say is a final retort.
"The Cat in the Hat" has humor to spare. I wish
that they had left more in there. |
