Beyond the full screen and
widescreen DVD versions, "The Dukes of Hazzard"
come in PG-13 and Unrated flavors. And what
exactly does the Unrated version get you, you're
obviously wondering? Mostly topless sorority girls
and extra unrated deleted scenes and bloopers --
about 4 minutes worth, within the half-hour of
PG-13 deleted scenes and bloopers. Sorry, there's
no unrated Jessica Simpson flesh. There's Johnny
Knoxville in ménage à trois though.
Other special features include several
featurettes: "Daisy Dukes: The Short Short Shorts"
teaches you how to make shorts really, really
short, "The General Lee Lives" takes a close look
at the famous Dodge Charger, and "How to Launch a
Muscle Car 175 feet in 4 Seconds" goes behind the
stunts. The music video of Jessica Simpson's
rendition of "These Boots are Made for Walking" is
also included, as well as a behind-the-scenes
documentary and the theatrical trailer.
And if you didn't know, the film was based on the
eponymous 1980's TV series about cousins Luke Duke
(Knoxville) and Bo Duke (Seann William Scott), who
are always under the watchful eye of Hazzard
County's Sheriff Roscoe P. Coltrane (M.C. Gainey)
and corrupt businessman Boss Hogg (Burt Reynolds).
Here Boss Hogg has planted evidence of moonshine
production on the Duke farm that will allow him to
seize their land and pursue his moneymaking scheme
to strip-mine Hazzard.
The basic similarities with the TV series are
Daisy Duke's short shorts, the obvious fact that
the deputy sheriff was head over heels in love
with her, and hijinks of Duke boys always trying
to stay away from the sheriff. However, the movie
version takes everything to the extreme and would
have ended up better off not associating itself at
all with the show. There are a few chuckles
scattered throughout but all in all, unless you've
just got to see one more sequence of the General
Lee jumping through the air, it's not worth your
time. |
