Maid in Manhattan [Columbia]

Do you know what your children are watching?

By TERESSA ELLIOTT

Formulaic romance starring Jennifer Lopez (as maid, natch, Marisa Ventura) and Ralph Fiennes (as Senatorial candidate Chris Marshall).

The audience can figure out what will happen long before the characters can and the film has another problem called lack of chemistry (between the leads, of course). That combination makes the love story boring and not worth watching. But, a subplot involving Marisa's desire to better her life and leave the projects and a pessimistic mother behind gives the film a tiny snap.

The DVD has no extras aside from a few trailers and a website address on "Maid in Manhattan" style, so it's almost like the filmmakers also knew the film was a dud.
