13 Conversations About One Thing [Columbia]

Do you know what your children are watching?

By TERESSA ELLIOTT

Don't watch this DVD if you're depressed. It seems that most of the characters in this film are unhappy or, if they're happy, someone or something will cause them unhappiness during the course of the film.

A series of vignettes involving a number of different characters proves that nothing is left to chance. Their stories overlap in various ways although the characters don't realize it.

Alan Arkin gives a great performance as a business manager out to wipe the smile off a coworker's face and the other performances are also good, but ultimately the film isn't as good as it could be because of its message and tone. The extras are sparse too: a filmmaker's commentary is the only substantial extra offered.
