PACKAGED PITCH |
|
“Two lovers (Christian Slater and Patricia Arquette) are
thrust into a dangerous game of high-stakes negotiations and high-speed adventure. The pair come into unexpected
possession of a suitcase of mob contraband. They flee to L.A., where they'll sell the goods and begin a new life. But both
sides of the law have other ideas.” |

OUR OPINION |
|
An Essential DVD:
Crime
It combines the ultra violence of Quentin Tarantino with the hard-hitting kinetic energy of Tony Scott, and the result is a pseudo-gangster flick with a romance at the core, an outrageous ride that is definitely not for the squeamish. The film is rat-a-tat-tat with snappy dialogue and energy to spare. Slater and Arquette are sensational, combining a smoldering sexuality with a long-marrieds' steady love, and you root for these "minimum wage kids" from beginning to end. The cameos are wonderful too, and thankfully not fleeting: Christopher Walken as a gangster, Dennis Hopper as a loving father (in an unlikely role) and Brad Pitt as a Generation-X waste. At times the film is too self-conscious and the violence is extreme, yet "True Romance" is funny and exciting, a film you'll want to talk about after watching it. TERESSA ELLIOTT |
