Yu-Gi-Oh! - The Movie [Warner]

Do you know what your children are watching?

By WADE GOSSETT

Here's the story: Two boys face off in a battle pitting their decks of magic cards against each other. What they do not know is that one of the boys is being helped by a dark power in the form of a long-dead, vengeful pharaoh who wants to come back and take over the world.

And here are a few facts about the movie: It features the voices of Dan Green, Wayne Grayson, Amy Birnbaum and Eric Stuart -- whoever they are. It was directed by Hatsuki Tsuji and it lasts 1 hour and 30 minutes. The MPAA rating is PG, Kids-in-mind.com gave it a 4 out of 10 in Violence/Gore and Critics.com assigned it one star out of a possible 4.

Beyond that, I found it incomprehensible. My wife thought that it was like an instruction manual for playing with Yu-Gi-Oh cards. But obviously we're not the target audience. So I asked my 8-year-old daughter and 6-year-old son to tell me what they thought.

My 8-year-old said it wasn't as bad as she thought it would be, but it was too violent for her and she wouldn't watch it again.

My 6-year-old son said it was OK. He then changed the subject and asked if he could play an X-box game (not Yu-Gi-Oh related).

Neither of them professed any urge to play with  Yu-Gi-Oh cards after watching the movie. And there you have it. Facts and unbiased opinions by the target audience.
